Karela/bitter gourd Ka Sabzi
While growing up this used to be one of veggiess which i happen to like and eat, I know lot of people who don’t like karela but i like to eat this sabzi with plain white roti and yogurt. There are different ways to prepare karela, its slightly bitter in taste coz of that most of people don’t like to have it. At my house my mom use to make karela with lots of onions and spices to reduce the bitterness and to taste good.
4 large karela’s/bitter gourd
2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
2 green chilles, chopped
1 tablespoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1 teaspoon garam masala powder
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
salt to taste
Wash and dry the karela. Cut them into round thinly slices.
Heat oil in a skillet, add cumin seeds and wait for it to turn brown in color, add the sliced onions and cook it until it turns translucent.
Now add turmeric powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder and salt to taste and cook it for 2-3 minutes.
Add the sliced karela to the pan and mix it well with the onion masala.
Cover the skillet and cook until karela becomes tender around 20-25 minutes on medium heat.
Uncover the skillet and cook for couple of mintues so that the moisture from the pan gets evaporated.
Serve with plain wheat bread/roti’s.
